Toxoplasmosis cerebral y SIDA en un adolescente

La toxoplasmosis cerebral es una de las infecciones oportunistas más frecuentes en los pacientes VIH+ que ocurre cuando el individuo tiene linfocitos CD4 <100/μL; ante las manifestaciones clínicas sugerentes de masa cerebral se deben realizar estudios para el diagnóstico de certeza pues la neurotoxoplasmosis puede ser la primera manifestación de SIDA, por lo que es conveniente solicitar estudios de ELISA, de Western Blot, CD4, TAC contrastada de cráneo, resonancia magnética, reacción en cadena de la polimerasa en líquido cefalorraquídeo o en sangre e iniciar tratamiento eficaz con antiparasitarios. Cerebral toxoplasmosis is one of the most frequent opportunistic infections in HIV + patients that occurs when the individual has CD4 <100/ μL, with clinical manifestations suggestive of brain tumor, studies should be done to accuracy diagnosis, considering the neurotoxoplasmosis can be the first manifestation of AIDS and it is advisable to request ELISA, Western Blot, CD4, contrasted CT skull, MRI scan, cerebrospinal fluid or blood PCR and initiate effective anti-parasite treatment.
