Enfermedades neurodegenerativas ¿una consecuencia ineludible de envejecer?

Se trata de una breve reseña –desde la perspectiva de los autores– de los fenómenos que participan en el proceso de envejecimiento cerebral, sus diferencias de acuerdo con el sexo de la persona que envejece, su vínculo con las enfermedades neurodegenerativas y la gran expectativa que han creado los diversos grupos que investigan al respecto para identificar tempranamente a las personas que sufrirán tal catástrofe e implementar medidas eficaces de profilaxis y tratamiento. This is a brief overview –from authors’ perspective– about the phenomena involved in the brain aging process, the differences by sex of the person who is aging, its association to the neurodegenerative diseases and the great expectations that have created the diverse research groups in this regard to identify early on the people that will suffer such catastrophe, and implement effective measures of prophylaxis and/or treatment.
