Abstract Rhabdomyolysis is a clinical syndrome resulting from muscle injury secondary to calcium entry to the intracellular space, causing a pathological interaction between actin and myosin, culminating in muscle destruction. Of multiple etiologies, such as trauma, which is the most frequent. It may cause severe complications endangering life. The diagnosis is established with the increase at least five times the normal value of creatine kinase. Treatment aims to limit muscle damage and prevent complications. Key words: rhabdomyolysis, creatine kinase, calcium, acute renal failure.
