Abstract
Introduction: We report the first isolated case in Mexico of infection by Chryseobacterium indologenes, an emerging pathogen in immunocompromised patients.

Case presentation: The examined case was a 59-year-old male who had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, had received a bone marrow transplant, and had been hospitalized for 21 days. This patient presented with evidence of a systemic inflammatory response, and C. indologenes was identified in his blood culture. He exhibited an adequate clinical response to treatment with levofloxacin.

Conclusions: C. indologenes is an emerging pathogen in hospital contexts; this pathogen predominantly affects immunocompromised patients who experience prolonged hospital stays and receive extended antibiotic therapy.

Keywords: Chryseobacterium indologenes, severe sepsis, bacteremia.
